To the One I Love

Five years ago today I married my forever, the love of my life, my best friend.  You have been there for me through what have truly been the worst times in my life and the best times in my life.  You have made me laugh and held me while I cried.

When I fell for you I fell completely and yet I somehow love you more and more each day.  My perfect one, my soul mate, everything I dreamed of, everything I wanted and even everything I didn't know I wanted until I found you.

I wonder why God has blessed me so greatly when I feel so undeserving.  You are proof to me of the greatness of His love.  You are selfless, giving, hardworking, loving, and devoted.  You balance me, encourage me, and love me so completely.

The things you do for me and the things you give up do not go unnoticed.  You always put me first and always do with out and don't even give it a second thought.  You work so hard in school and clinic and then rush home so that you can eat dinner with your family, and that means so much to me.  After a hard day you are still happy to come home and change diapers, do bath time, wash dishes, and let me have a break.

And you so all this with a happy heart, a heart so loving that it always amazes me.

I am so blessed to have you as my forever.  I love you more than words can say.

You always tell me that you're the lucky one... but the truth is, it's me.

Celebrating Lauralee

My baby girl will be two at the end of this month (which doesn't seem possible).  Since Adam was able to come visit the first weekend of the month we decided to celebrate her birthday a little early.  L knew her party was coming and talked about it pretty much all week.  She was so excited and as cute as ever as she basked in all the attention.

Can you guess the theme?

In the next picture I was trying to show the cute butterfly wings hanging on the gate but they didn't end up showing up very well ... look closely!

Since it is May, and Florida, we had a pool party.  And the day could not have been more perfect for it.

I didn't get very many pictures of all our wonderful family and friends who came to celebrate with us, once the party starts I quit taking pictures...

The reason I chose this theme was because I wanted to make this cake, such a fun design!

Lauralee blew out her candles on her first try!

And then they FINALLY got to touch it ...

When it came to presents the girl got right down to business.

And they, of course, had a great time swimming.

We ended the party with the catching of butterflies in nets (paper butterflies) ... the kids loved it.

Lauralee had a wonderful birthday party.  Thank you every one who came, we love you all!  And thank you, thank you, thank you Mom for all your help!

Easter

Here they are, ready to find some eggs!

After multiple egg hunts we made Resurrection Rolls for breakfast, which the kids devoured at record speed.  They are empty, just like Jesus' tomb on Easter morning.  The kids get to put a marshmellow in the center of each roll (we used crescents) and when they come out of the oven the marshmellow is "gone".  This is not my picture, but here is what they look like...

We didn't get to go to Church this Easter because I was sick (and didn't think it would be very nice to cough all over everyone) so we went through all the Resurrection Eggs again with the kids, read the book "Benjamin's Box" to them (if you do Resurrection Eggs with your kids you should get this book, it is great!), and prayed and gave thanks for our Lord and Saviour.

It was really nice having Adam there with us, we have been missing him so much.  Three months is much more difficult than it sounds, and it sounds pretty difficult, at least to me.  We are so blessed to be in Florida with family though, and are very thankful for that!

We ate a delicious Easter Dinner at MayMay and PopPop's and then the kids got ready to find some more Easter Eggs.

Hogan was pretty pumped up and couldn't contain his excitement for very long...

The first time we let the kids find Easter Eggs this year it was at Hogan's friend Johnny's house.  Since it was Lauralee and two older boys we thought she might need a head start but she was an expert at it from the get-go.  It was so funny to watch her race from egg to egg, she definitely held her own.

She got down to business finding the eggs on Easter too.

After they found all the eggs the kids decided to hide them for Noni to find.  This is Lauralee's method of hiding Easter Eggs...

We attempted to get a family photo.  One of these days we will get a good one.  These are the best we came out with...

We also tried to get some pictures of the kids with Nana and Grandpa.  After some cropping my kids look pretty cooperative :-)

We had a wonderful Easter with our wonderful family.

That's What Daddies are For

Easter Eggs

Adam was able to spend Easter weekend with us, so of course it was wonderful!  We colored eggs and had multiple Easter Egg Hunts, some with friends, some with family, and some just us.  And so far no stinky eggs have turned up so I am pretty sure they were all recovered.

Easter Story Cookies

Part of our Easter tradition (going on 2 years :) is to make Easter Story Cookies with the kids.  It is a fun way to talk about and appreciate why we celebrate Easter and the love of our Savior.  Every ingredient has meaning so the kids get a lot out of it and have fun doing it.

You start with pecans, beaten and broken into small pieces:   Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read: John 19:1-3. Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face.

Next you add vinegar:  Let each child smell the vinegar. Add teaspoon of vinegar into the mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross He was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30...Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When he had received the drink,Jesus said,"It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Next comes egg whites:  Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

Salt! : Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sins. Read Luke 23:27 A large number of people followed Him, including women who mourned and wailed for Him.

Finally the sweet stuff:  So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup of sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8--Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him~and John 3:16--"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Next beat with a mixer on high speed for 12-15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18--"Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." And John 3:1-3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him." In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Drop by the spoonful onto a cookie sheet:  Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

Place the cookie sheet in the oven. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66 "Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting a guard.

GO TO BED. Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 "I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, buy your grief will turn to joy." And John 16:22 "So with you~ Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy."

On Easter morning, open the oven and remove the cookies. Take a bite. Notice~the cookies are hollow!

On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.

Read Matthew 28:1-9 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples: "He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him. Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them, "Greetings," He said. They came to Him, clasped his feet and worshipped Him.

Not only are they meaningful and fun to make... they are pretty yummy as well!
